One of the biggest tennis events in the region is just around the corner. Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open 2024 is officially starting in nine days and we’re excited about it, as you should be too because the first female Saudi tennis star is joining the tournament.

Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open 2024

This February will mark the second edition of the WTA500 tennis tournament in Abu Dhabi. Building on the success of the inaugural event in 2023, Mubadala along with the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) will bring 28 of the world’s top-seeded female players, including Ons Jabeur, Emma Raducanu and Elena Rybakina, back to the UAE.

The 28 all-star female players will compete in singles draw matches as well as compete as 16 teams in doubles draw matches, all with the aim to go up the ranks.

Among them will be Yara Alhogbani, Saudi’s first-ever woman to win a professional tennis event back in 2022. She was awarded wild card for qualifiers in this tournament.

WTA500 is a category of tennis tournaments in the Women’s Tennis Association tour, with the winner getting 470 ranking points.

This year, the tennis competition will start on Saturday February 3, lasting until Sunday February 11.

The competition will take place at the International Tennis Centre in Abu Dhabi’s Zayed Sports City.

Tickets to the tennis tournament are free on the first two days with options of regular, premium and courtside seats. On the third day, tickets start from SAR25 for regular seating, SAR50 for premium and SAR95 for courtside.

Off the courts, you’ll be able to meet the players during special appearances, enjoy food and family-friendly entertainment in the Fan Village as well as win exclusive prizes.

Other sports events coming soon

Abu Dhabi is not the only GCC city getting an exciting sporting event. Saudi is jam-packed with athletics, with the Diriyah E-Prix zooming in this weekend on Friday January 26, promising fast cars and a great accompanying concert line-up.

Fighting events are also coming to Riyadh starting in February, beginning with the Ring of Fire boxing match followed by the MMA Super Fight, which will see MMA champions from PFL and Bellator fighting head-to-head to identify the ultimate champion.
