The mercury is rising, and so is the excitement around AlUla Desert Blaze 2025. This Saudi run is quite literally one of the hottest endurance tests around as the race is taking place (yup, you guessed it) in the desert in August.
From running on tarred roads to mountaineering, the action takes place at the fantastic UNESCO World Heritage sites in AlUla.

AlUla Desert Blaze 2025
AlUla Desert Blaze 2025, which first began in 2023, is the first running challenge of its kind in the ancient heritage city. The race sees regional and global contestants sweat it out over a five-kilometre race, a 10-kilometre race, a 21.1-kilometre race (half-marathon), and a whopping 42.2-kilometre race (full-marathon).
The race is open for ages 16+ for the 5km and 10km races; and 18+ for the half and full marathons.
AlUla is a pleasant part of Saudi to visit in the summer, but temperatures can still reach mid-forties during the day and are between 25 to 30 degrees at night.

AlUla Desert Blaze 2025 location
The run will have you blazing throughout the ancient city. The official route of the race will be released closer to the race day but you will begin the race from Hegra.
Alula Desert Blaze 2025 dates and time
The race will be held from Saturday, August 15 to Sunday, August 16. There will be a mandatory pre-race briefing on Friday, August 15 from 6pm-9pm at AlFursan Village. The race meeting location is at Hegra Visitor Centre.

If you’re up for the challenge, registration for is now open on experiencealula.com. Don’t forget to collect your race kit, which includes a T-shirt, bandana, tote bag, and race bib on the day of briefing.

Desert Blaze runners will have access to comprehensive medical services and amenities to ensure their safety. This includes, but is not limited to, ambulances with roaming and stationed paramedics; nurses and physiotherapists; and aide stations every five kilometres with water, ice buckets, hydration drinks, gels, fruits and snacks.
Post-race, there are fun activities to look forward to that will help you cool down in style. There will be live DJ music, a photo booth, a dedicated AlUla Desert Blaze merchandise booth, and a food truck loaded with yummy food.

Things to do in AlUla
If you’re travelling to AlUla, there are some less intense things to do in the oasis this summer including activities like AlUla Stairway, exploring Old Town, and snapping endlessly at the Insta-famous Maraya. Come September, the dusk-to-dawn musical festival AZIMUTH is returning.
