The newest Saudi celebration to be added to our calendars is an annual celebration that happens on March 11 and is all about the, you guessed it, Saudi flag.
The festivities are expected to marked by by awesome sales, colourful fireworks, impressive drone shows and a whole lot of flag waving, of course.
What is Saudi Flag Day?
Saudi Flag Day, is all about celebrating the Kingdom’s national flag. The day commemorates the adoption of the unstandardised version of the Saudi flag in 1937 before it was standardised in 1973. The celebrations are marked by drone shows, fireworks, parades and more.
Saudi Flag Day was announced in 2023. So, Saudi Flag Day 2025 only marks the third year of the celebration.

The green flag has Arabic inscription printed on it in white underlined by a traditional Arabic straight sword also in white. The green of the flag represents the Kingdom’s dominant religion and the sword signifies Saudi’s dedication to justice.
The 1937 Saudi flag v the 1973 Saudi Flag
The Saudi flag has been reimagined four times with the original two versions featuring a stripe on the hoist. By 1937, the Saudi flag had basically assumed its present form but the sword was more curved than straight and the hoist stripe had been taken out. In 1973, the official flag was standardised across the Kingdom and the world with the inscription’s font being changed to read the same backwards and forwards as well as the addition of a straight sword.
