Mitsubishi Pajero Sport to Debut in New Facelift Version Based on Triton Models

New Spy Shots Reveal Revised Design

The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, also sold as the Montero Sport in some markets, received a minor facelift earlier this year. Now, new spy shots have been taken of the car with a revised design that looks familiar. The new design is expected to follow the styling cues of the Triton or L200 models.

The prototype was caught testing in Europe, and features a completely new front fascia that looks identical to the one used on the 200. The rest of the design remains largely unchanged, leading experts to believe that the SUV is a test vehicle rather than a traditional prototype. That appears to be the case, as only the front fascia appears to have been changed.

Production Model Expected to Feature Boxier Design

However, the production model can be expected to come with the same truck design, which likely means a boxier design. The cabin should see changes with a modern design and a 9-inch standalone infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay. Analog gauges, a 7-inch multi-information display, and distinctive switches are also expected to continue.

Engine and Transmission Options

Since the model is essentially a Triton-based SUV, the Pajero Sport must rely on high-tensile steel to improve rigidity and reduce weight.

A 2.4-litre turbodiesel engine can also be expected in different powertrains. In the pickup, power is rated at 148 hp and 330 Nm, 181 hp and 430 Nm, and 201 hp and 470 Nm. It should be mated to a 6-speed transmission and all-wheel drive.

Future Plans

Beyond the Pajero Sport, Mitsubishi is preparing to introduce a facelift version of the Outlander, which is scheduled to debut this fall in Japan. Meanwhile, there is growing buzz about the possible return of the Pajero name as a large luxury SUV featuring a plug-in hybrid system.
